Skinny Jeans Are Not For Everyone
Do you own skinny jeans? Do you ever wear them or was it a fashion-victim-type purchase that now sits in your closet?
When I first heard about skinny jeans, I assumed they make you look skinny. I was wrong. The jeans are cut “skinny”, or narrow, and end in a small leg opening. This does not mean that you would actually appear skinny in them: skinny jeans tend to make your thighs look bigger. You can look fabulous in this cut if you have a stick figure and narrow hips. Most of us don’t.

What would be a better choice for most moms (most women in fact)?
A slightly flared leg or a boot cut, combined with a low-rise waist, is the most flattering jean style for most body types. This look enhances the length of the legs, and the flare balances the width of the thigh.

The low rise should be a SLIGHT low rise to be truly flattering and comfortable. You DON’T want to look like this when you sit down:

My personal advice, if you own skinny jeans but never wear them, is to get rid of them (donate to Goodwill if you don’t want to throw them in the trash) and make room in your closet for more flattering styles.

Cute blog but I completely disagree on the jeans. I don’t have a stick figure but I do think I look great in skinny jeans. You just need to pair them with a flowy top and ballet flats. It’s a very stylish look. Bootcut looks too “safe”.

Skinny jeans are definitely not for everyone. I think exercising some judgement in clothing choices is essential.

@ Ashleigh: It’s very true that if you go for skinny jeans, it’s a good idea to balance out the look with a “flowy top”.
@ Les: I agree! You need to find styles that work with YOUR body, regardless of fashion. Having said that, bootcut is generally a flattering cut regardless of your figure.

I have skinny jeans, and I wear them, and I’m a guy. XD I love skinnies! My legs are fairly thin and I’m an alternative fashionista, so I love to combine things like bold colours, animal print, and wear tight clothes to show off my (fairly XD) skinny body. But imo, if someone knows they can’t pull skinnies off, they shouldn’t even try - if you have to “pour” yourself into them they’re unfortunately not really gonna look great on them. :/

@ revenant: I completely agree that you need to be able to pull this look off.
“if you have to “pour” yourself into them they’re unfortunately not really gonna look great on them” - absolutely true!

[…] jeans are tight jeans that end in a narrow leg opening. Generally, skinny jeans look best on long-legged boyish figures. It’s best to avoid them if you have a fuller figure. […]

omq , are you serious? I personally think that skinnys look terrible on people with really slim legs and long ones. atleast thats what my whole school agrees with too. skinnys look nice on people who have thighs and nice legs, (ofcourse not really fat ones or discombobulated,) but I happen to have alot of them and fit me just well for a person with okay thighs/legs. “/

@ Maddie: Quite serious. But fashion sense is a very personal thing and you sound like you know what looks good on YOU, which is the most important thing. What the entire school thinks is not as important as what YOU think. As long as you feel good in an item of clothing, you will project that feeling. Self confidence is far more attractive than any particular physical trait or clothing style.
