How to Incorporate Exercise Into Your Daily Routine
Rachel Campos-Duffy from ParentDish has been wondering how come she doesn’t workout anymore, then realized that she has four kids and a baby on the way which might have something to do with her lack of motivation.
She says, “for the last four days, I have put on my workout clothes in the morning, in hopes of finding a 30-minute window somewhere in my day to jump on the elliptical. And for the last four nights, I have taken off my workout clothes to put on my pajamas without even so much as touching a dumbbell, let alone a machine”.
A pregnant mother of four should probably take it easy and let go of some of her exercise expectations. But for the rest of us, how do we make sure exercise happens?
In my personal experience, it is best to exercise first thing in the morning. If you can have coffee and a small breakfast, exercise and shower right at the start of your day, it accomplishes two goals: first, you regularly exercise which helps you stay fit and healthy. Second, you start your workday feeling accomplished and energized.
Even if the rest of your day is a complete disaster, you have already accomplished something important that makes you feel good about yourself.

Working out early in the morning is probably best if you workout at home which I can’t do, I need the structure of a gym, but I do find that going to the gym at the same time every single day (or 5 days a week) makes it an integral part of my routine so I never feel the need to skip it.

I workout at night, but I tape my favorite guilty pleasure - a soap I’m addicted to - and watch it while exercising. Since I will only allow myself this guilty pleasure if I exercise simultaneously, it’s a foolproof way to get myself on that exercise bike.
