Managing Stress

You know that you need to leave the house by 4pm to get to the kids’ swimming lesson on time. It is 3:57pm. You have a choice: either get out of the house now and be there on time, or check your email just one more time. Of course, you check your email. Once you check it, you can’t help answering a few of the messages. When you peek at the clock, it’s 4:07pm. You are going to be late again.

Sounds familiar? It happens to me every single day. I try to squeeze just one more thing, accomplish one more task. Then I get stressed because squeezing that extra thing is NOT good time management. It is excessive and leads to unnecessary pressure. When you try to use every single minute of your day, you may get more done, but you don’t leave yourself enough time to relax, unwind and just enjoy life.

One of my resolutions for this year (yes, I make New Year’s resolutions) is to try and get LESS done. If I accept that there is just so much that I can do in a single day, if I am able to slow down a little, I’ll be happier and my family will be happier too. We may even start getting to those swimming lesson on time.
