Sephora No No: Does It Work?
Does “Sephora No No” actually work?
Removing unwanted hair permanently is time-consuming and expensive. The results – even with laser – are not always as smooth or as permanent as one would hope.
So I was intrigued when a friend told me about the Sephora No!No! hair removal system.
My friend was thrilled with her results. A former daily shaver with almost-immediate stubble, she is now down to using the No No Hair Removal System once a week and feels that the amount of hair on her legs has been significantly reduced and that it grows back more slowly than before. She feels that she’s on her way to getting rid of the hair – permanently.
According to the manufacturer, Sephora No No allows you to “achieve hair density reduction at home, with no mess, no cuts, no burns, and no noise”. It is an “adaptation of professional hair removal technology into a home use product.”
A clinical study that I found online states that “The efficacy and safety of the no!no! Thermicon device for hair removal of the legs appear to be comparable to those of laser devices,” but since I wasn’t willing to pay for the full article, it’s unclear who paid for that study.
If you’ve tried removing unwanted hair with the Sephora No No hair removal system, I would love to read about it in the comments.

I don’t recommend this product at all. The blades wear out really fast and it gets expensive to replace them. When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Didn’t work for me either. Takes too much time, smell is horrible, and my skin never felt smooth. I’m back to shaving.

I’ve used it for 2 months, the result is not very apparent. But I have a question, hope someone can help me out: my family is going to move to China for 3 years, can I still use no!no! there? Because the power voltage is different there….

Anon and Hairy, thank you for sharing your experiences. Rachel, you should probably contact Sephora’s customer service at 1-877-737-4672 and ask them that question. They do have a Chinese website, by the way. Sephora China.

I’ve been using the no!no! system for almost a year with only very minimal change in hair regrowth. I am being 100% honest here, despite a couple of my friends laughing at me for buying such an expensive product like this. I had so much hope for this little gadget. The only reason I continue to use it is BECAUSE I foolishly spent so much money on it. For the entire time that I have owned this thing, I haven’t used a razor, not even once because I really wanted to make sure that this system was going to do as it claimed. I have to use it just it about every other day, otherwise I am back to where I started before I invested in it. The hair continues to grow just as it did when I was simply shaving with much cheaper razors from WalMart.

@ ChriYOung: According to the Sephora website, the product is not recommended for use on the face.

I was very tempted to buy this No-No hair removal item, but after reading the above, I think I will save the money that I really didn’t have to spend on it anyway. I would, though, like to find something that really would slow the hair growing process on my legs. I have bought several epil razors, but even though it helps somewhat, they do not really make my legs smooth to the touch, though the hair does not grow back as prickly as it does when I shave with a razor blade.

You know, Donna, I have to admit that after years of trying EVERYTHING, I am back to plain old shaving. It’s not perfect, but it’s cheap, fast, and it doesn’t hurt. If you ever find a magic solution, please come back here and let me know.
(Maybe the answer is a change in society’s expectations of women as far as smoothness is concerned).

I’ve been considering this product, but being a poor student I had my reservations. One positive was it’s marketed at £140 in the UK, remarkably comparable to the $250 of the states – unheard of in my experience.
However, I had a look for the Spencer (2007) article cited in the original entry, and found it at Clinical Evaluation Of A Handheld Device For Hair Removal
Unfortunately it was funded by Radiance Inc (company who manufacture No No), I critique articles regularly, and although this is perhaps unfair of me to say – science frowns heavily on non-biased research, and I would read the article findings with a pinch of salt.
Won’t bother boring you with numbers, but if only 14 or the 20 subjects complete the study, and only two thirds of them were happy with results how can this be a good outcome? I shall save my hard earned student grant and buy some razors.

I’m Asian, and as most people know – Asian’s have really dark thick hair. After reading reviews on the NO!NO! it seems like a definite NO NO for me to buy, as I don’t see it having long lasting results. I have been going for professional laser hair removals treatments using a machine called ‘Softlight’ for almost 2years now and have spent unbelievable amounts of money, but found that the hair on the body always returns. The truth is, there is no permanent cure for hair removal for really hairy people – who are the people that really need it.
I have also read reviews on laser light hair removal systems which can be used at home which I have never heard of before, but would be interested to hear from anyone who may have used Silk’N or Tria laser hair removal systems as they are really costly to buy with Tria selling for $800!!! But I’m desperate to invest if it means being hair free forever..!

can you use the no no on any body part? face, stomach, back, legs, arms, underarms etc….
MomGrind responds:

Hi Kacie, as far as I know, Sephora No No is not recommended for the face but can be used on other body parts. I would still be careful about using it in sensitive areas such as underarms. Stick with legs and arms until you see how your body responds.

hi, I get the Alkaline wash hair removal, and find it really works…. its great on the face, the first time I got it done, it lasted 3 weeks , now after 6 treatments I only have to go every 8 weeks and then the hair is alot less and finer.

Question for Kaybina about the Alkaline face wash. Interested in having done. I have fine blonde facial hair and was wondering after each treatment do you have to wait a certain amount of time before the next treatment or does the hair have to be a cretain length, any irritation, is it guaranteed to work. Also where do you have it done at and if you don`t mind me asking how much does in cost. Thanks

i feel like this product is a gimic! i have only used this product for about 2 weeks or so. every time i have used it, it has burned my legs, face, stomach, bikini and all the areas that im trying to treat. i have tried to call the no!no! help center to ask if im doing it wrong and have left multiple msgs without any return calls.. i have called the company that i bought it from and told them that it was burning me, and they told me to send it back and ddnt try to help me figure out why it was burning me. it is very painful, leaves scratches, and burn marks. if i had a good lawyer i would try to take whomever built this gadget to court and get this taken off the market. it is a scam! if truth be known, i think that the wire that is making that burning smell, is truly just a hot wire that burns the hair and the blue so called thermicon light, well, i think that is just a light and thats it. this is a joke of a product!!
