Moms And Toddlers Argue 20 Times Per Hour
Shocking! Research shows that toddlers are easily frustrated and give their mothers a hard time!
The study placed mothers and their toddlers in two situations that are inherently stressful. The first: playing with toys, with some of the toys being out of reach. The second: right before dinner. The results: “mothers and toddlers were arguing on average between 20-25 times an hour at both assessment periods”.
That average is based on a wide range of hourly quarrels, from a low of four conflicts per hour to a high of 55 arguments per hour. The moms and kids were only studied during times when conflict was likely; they probably didn’t clash like that around the clock.
Those conflicts were more likely to get resolved quickly if the kids had a good relationship with their mother and weren’t especially temperamental, but those factors didn’t affect the frequency of the mother-child conflicts. The researchers pointed out that such conflicts are normal and frequent during the toddler and early preschool years.
I am impatiently waiting for the study that would attempt to find out how many times per hour teens argue with their parents.

Researchers and their studies… sometimes I’m amazed at the topics they come up with.

It’s amazing to know that toddlers have temper. It would be interesting to know if there is any nexus between toddler behavior with parent and grown adult’s behavior with the parent.

Interesting question. Possibly, since temperamental toddlers probably grow up to be highly strung adults.

Toddlers have temper and so does moms who are with them. It’s always easier said than done but it requires a lot of patience to be with small kids. Looking back when my daughter was younger (she’s almost 5 now), I shouldn’t have argued with her like I did…thinking outside of the box, people will be confused as to who is the child!
