Will You Give Up A Single Visit to Starbucks to Save a Life?

BlogHer and Global Giving have teamed up to Save Women’s Lives.
I will let Denise Tanton do the talking:
Over the weekend, I bought a domain name for $10. I haven’t decided what I’m going to do with it yet. $10 covers the costs of a clinic in Nepal for two days.
This morning, we spent $15 at Starbucks. We bought 2 Quad Grande Non-Fat Caramel Macchiatos and 1 Triple Grande Cinnamon Dulce w/whip. $15 also buys lunch for 50 girls in a West African village.
We need to fill up the gas tank today, which will cost about $25. $25 also aids 20 Afghanistan women with reproductive health care and education.
I was thinking about dinner at Satchel’s which costs about $50. $50 will provide AIDS counseling for 2 women in South Africa.
My money can make a difference - so can yours.
I wasn’t sure about participating in this effort. My first reaction was “I don’t really care, that’s so far away”. But Denise’s post convinced me to make a TINY effort and donate to save women’s lives in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Darfur, Nepal, and South Africa.
Will YOU give up a visit to Starbucks to save a life?

OK, I gave. But only because *you* asked.
I don’t think you should do too many of these.

Thank you so much for blogging this effort — I love how you put these donations into perspective. At a time when we’re all pinching every last thin dime, hey, it’s a world safer and healthier here than for so many women in Afghanistan, Burkina Faso, Darfur, Nepal, and South Africa. Your Starbucks made someone’s day. Hey, mine did too! (I chose #2, Afghanistan, how about you?)
Thank you for caring, for donating and for sharing precious blog-space to save a life. I’ve been watching your comments on BlogHer.com, where I’ve been impressed by your candor. Now I’m impressed with your heart too.

@ Lisa: Thank you for your comment. I gave to the Nepal clinic. It was Denise Tanton who put things in perspective - and inspired me to do so. She is the one who made me think of this, not in terms of “um, I don’t really care”, but in terms of “this is so easy for me to do, and will have such huge impact on other people’s lives”.

Very nice post. Thanks for promoting this challenge, which we are thrilled to be doing together with BlogHer.
As usual, the women are leading the way, but maybe we men will tag along and provide some support…
