My Name Is Vered, And I’m a Mommyblogger Wannabe

MomGrind has a new tagline.

After Friday’s little discussion, it occurred to me that just like Denise, I love mommybloggers, and want to be a mommyblogger, but there’s a strong possibility that I don’t know HOW to be a mommyblogger.

Yes, I am a mom, and I blog, but if I hardly ever blog ABOUT being a mom, can I qualify as a mommyblogger?

While I generally tend to agree with Kelly, who said on Friday:

Personally I am sick of thinking “what kind of blogger am I?” Who cares whether you’re a mommy blogger or a chick blogger or a parenting blogger.

I still want to figure out what MomGrind is all about.

While I am busy figuring it out, I have decided that it’s time for a new blog tagline anyway. The old one “tips, tricks and products to help you take care of yourself while taking care of your kids”, worked well enough when I just started, but it doesn’t really reflect what I do over here. MomGrind isn’t so much about giving advice (although I do indulge in advice-giving once in a while), as it is about asking questions, and thinking out loud, and pointing at interesting things, and laughing.

My identity crisis gave me the perfect new tagline:

A Mommyblogger Wannabe.

Well Vered, you’re definitely more of a mommyblogger than I am! I have no problem with calling you a mommyblogger if that’s what you want to be.

Vered, I understand your dilemma completely . . . I don’t think I’ve really found my blogging groove yet either. But it’s early days still.

I agree that your blog is hard to characterize - but it’s always interesting and thought-provoking! Perhaps with time you’ll find your voice and get more comfortable; in the meantime, it seems you have a dedicated group of readers who enjoy what you’re doing now.

No problem! Change it up I say! Your old tagline and new one aren’t THAT far off that people will be driven away. I think it is a natural progression and the whole point of growing as a person AND a blog! Good step I say!

I’m thinking of switching my tagline up too… I’ll email you offline about that, maybe we’ll have similar ideas! :)

I love how you seem to be open to changing things up. I feel that about your mommyblogging voice. You are a total mommy blogger. I’m a mommyblogger wannabe too, so I think you will have a lot of moms who can relate to what you’re saying. From one mommy to another, I love reading your blog,

Vered–I’m just glad that you’re going through what I’m going through right now, which is trying to find my voice or what my blog is about.

Like Kelly, I decided to stop thinking and just let it take its own course. Besides, if my blog needs to be my voice, then it can’t be just about parenting because I’m more than a parent. I’m also a husband, a borther, a son, a teacher, a friend, and so on and so forth.

This is a natural progression that we all have to go through.

Well, as long as people like what you’re writing, I think you’re doing ok…even without a specific genre. :)

    Hehehe.

I’m pretty happy to have no real niche. I write what I write and I like it that way.

    Your tagline is hilarious.

I like the name ;) and i like the tag line. The ability to constantly learn, reflect, and adapt is one of the core ones for me. Even small change might look like a big obstacle to some. Changing tag line is a big one for blogger i think. You set perfect example of constant improvement and desire to get better. Small example but very inspiring to me.

    Hey Vered!

I just found your blog and I think it’s just wonderful! =)

It has a very happy and cheerful vibe to it, I like!

As for the new tagline, I think you’re already a mommyblogger aren’t you?

This is the first time I’ve come across the term but my best bet is that it means you have to be a mommy and a blogger to join the club - both of which you are…

So you ARE a mommyblogger! Haha!

I look forward to reading your mommyblogposts =)

    Vered,

I think your new tagline is brilliant. Like you, my blog doesn’t really know where it fits - is it inspirational, self development, life hacks, spirituality? I’m not really sure.

Keep up the great work :)

I’ve been a mommyblogger for two years and I hardly qualify as making the big bucks. I wonder if I can send a bill directly to NBC. “Paging Kathy Lee Gifford….”

There may be a lot of marketing hubabaloo about mommybloggers these days. And I hate to say it, but bloggers are a dime a dozen (me-self included). Blogging is transforming traditional media and we stand to gain from it. But bloggers are also fiercely individualistic (as it should be) and can’t seem to reach an agreement on how/if/when/where/price we want for all the publicity.

As for me? I’ll gladly take free samples in laundry detergent and mac n cheese any day.

I think you must know how to do it because you seem to be doing pretty well! You have had lots of people leaving comments - I hardly get any.

In fact, I think you could tell other people how to do it. Maybe you should change it to ‘How to be a Mommyblogger’! How do you do it anyway? How did you manage to have so many people find your blog and comment?

    Hey Vered,
Your new tag line is cool! Very catchy. I am also not sure too what kind of blogger I am. I am a wife but with no kids. I guess I would fall in the chick blogger category? But am I still a chick? I don’t really know, I will try figure it out after my blog leave

See you when I get back!
    Cheers!

Vered, you are doing a fabulous job with your blog! It takes a while to figure out your voice. For me, I have had to just accept who I am. I am not witty and sharp like some moms. I am not funny when I poke fun at subjects. I am just honest and sometimes a little bit cheesy.

Also, I write two blogs which helps me figure out which category I fit in. One is personal and my total mommy blog (www.teamespinoza.com) and the other is my advice blog (www.themomcrowd.com). Which you already know about.

I think it is okay to be both here. That is what so fun about blogging - we are our editors and we can do whatever the heck we want with our blogs. :)

Hey there…it really depends on your definition of mommyblogger..is a mommy blogger a mom who happens to blog? Or is it a mom who blogs about being a mom or a mom who blogs about parenting?

I think the majority are mom’s who blog…and that is it.

    Vered

I like it. It’s funny and cool and you are too, so TA DA, perfect fit!

Part of the reason I haven’t had a site redesign yet is I keep thinking I’ll figure out what my angle is as a blogger, but so far, nope. I’m not even sure what a Mommy Blogger is though. I used to think it was all those sites with give aways and tips on caring for kids, which is so not my thing. But now I’m not so sure. I’m going to check out some of your blogroll and see if I can find some more intersting moms (and dads) and writers to hang out with. Afterall, isn’t being entertaining and intersting the most important thing?

Hello Vered, I’m having difficulty “categorizing” my blog too. I live in Dubai and write most about my expat life here. I throw parenting/kid-related posts once in a while but mostly I write about the things going on in this ‘interesting’ place - and I tell you, there’s so many so I can’t be a mommy blogger wholely.

Since I am a mommy blogger wannabe also, I set up a separate blog where I rant about pee and poo. :-)

I think you already have a distinctive voice and a lot to say. Maybe if you thought about why you want to be a mommyblogger? I think you’re more universal than that, but that doesn’t stop you from being able to blog about mommy issues if and when you want to. And I love your blog title, because it IS a grind (not that I’ve had the pleasure/pain) and that conveys some of your honesty.
