Would You Put A Dinosaur In Your Front Yard?

I’m assuming I can safely make fun of this over here.

Right? RIGHT?!

There’s no way one of you will yell at me in the comments “I have one exactly like this in my yard and everyone thinks it is BEAUTIFUL and a lovely addition not only to my house but to the entire neighborhood. Home values in my neighborhood have sharply risen since I’ve placed this in my yard”.

Photo taken on a recent trip to Half Moon Bay, California, where the roadside is filled with local farmers selling fresh produce, nurseries selling flowers and plants, and shops that are selling tasteful outdoor decorations.

Nooooo, I wouldn’t. But, there is a house around the corner, and down the road from us, that has an alien spaceship on his roof. It’s very colourful. Apparently, it used to sit in the front yard, right beside a full size Michelin Tire Man, but the neigbours complained, so the Tire Man was deflated (ha! pun intended!) and the space ship was moved to the roof. Personally, it brings a smile to my face each time I drive by, and I comment on how fun it is…but that is more for the sheer entertainment value of watching my boyfriend go into an immediate rant on tackiness and property values. And of course, it is around the corner and down the road from us, so I really don’t need to put much thought to it.

I wouldn’t like it but my children will love it. They’ve been begging me for a while now to decorate our lawn and I keep telling them to as their mother. If she says ok, then I’m fine without. I know she’ll never agree to it because she doesn’t like lawn decorations.

That’s so funny Vered. It reminded me of the Calvin & Hobbes cartoon strip where Calvin (5 or 6 year old boy with an incredible imagination) is always making snowmen doing strange things in the front yard of his house–like snowmen going on strike and picketing. It drives his parents crazy, but at least snowmen melt. Sometimes neighbors share more of themselves with us than we would care to know :-)

I have one of these in my front yard. You’ve really hit a nerve because I have to deal with abuse from my family and neighbours because of it. I don’t know if I can read this blog anymore and still respect it in the morning. I’m unsubscribing.

Just kidding. But it would be cool if they looked realistic enough to scare off door-to-door salesmen!

I have always been amazed at what people will put in their yard. We use to live in a nice little neighborhood in Michigan. During deer season some people strung up dead dear in their front yard trees. I called the police just to ask:

“I don’t want to get anyone in trouble, I just want to know if it is legal.”

“No it isn’t, but during deer season in Michigan there isn’t anything we can do about it anyway.”
