Will You Tell Me A Little Bit About Yourself?

I want to get to know you better.
And by better, I don’t mean your philosophical ideas or political views.
I mean something that’s a little less serious, but just as important.
There are lots of things that I want to know, but I realize you’re very busy, so I’ll limit this to five quick questions that I would LOVE for you to answer.
If you normally read MomGrind without commenting, it would be great if you could quickly comment on this one – just this one (stay anonymous if you like), because I would really love to get to know you too.
I don’t care if you’re female or male. I don’t care how old you are or whether you have kids or not. I couldn’t care less about your skin color or whether you believe in God or not (well I AM curious about that last one, but let’s handle that in another post).
These are my questions, and my own answers to them:
1. Toothpaste – do you squeeze the tube from the bottom or from the top? Top.
2. Morning person or a night owl? Morning person.
3. Sweet tooth or not really? Sweet tooth. Definitely.
4. Can you carry a tune? No.
5. Do you have a favorite color? If you do, is it REALLY your favorite color or did you feel compelled to choose one because people ask this question so frequently? I don’t have a favorite color. I randomly answer this question with either blue or purple. I have no idea why I don’t just say “I don’t have a favorite color” . I guess I feel that there’s PRESSURE to HAVE a favorite color.

Hi Vered, these are the results of the Istanbul panel:
1. Toothpaste – do you squeeze the tube from the bottom or from the top? I actually start in the middle I guess, continue towards the top, and eventually have to apply pressure at the bottom to finish the tube.
2. Morning person or a night owl? Night owl by nature, but during the school year forced to become a morning person.
3. Sweet tooth or not really? Sweet tooth for sure.
4. Can you carry a tune? Unfortunately, but that doesn’t keep me from practicing (in the shower or car)
5. Do you have a favorite color? Not one really. When asked I tell blue, but these days I also like green and red a lot.

1. I just try to pick a place that my wife hasn’t got to first.
2. As you can see from the time stamp, I either stay up really late or get up really early.
3. My mother, whom I visit as often as I can, tries to kill me with sugar cookies, but I try to balance them with lots of bean soup.
4. Yes, if it’s “O Canada” before a hockey game, or something else by the London Bach Choir.
5. Although I’m color blind, there is something about a redhead in a green dress that makes me crazy.

2) Morning person. Have been forever, so is my son. He’s risen before six since he was born.

I love colors in general, but blue and turquoise are my absolute favorites. (Did you know most people say blue?) Peer pressure didn’t force me to choose, I just gravitate to blue. In fact, even if I don’t like something, I might like it if it comes in blue.

1. Toothpaste: Bottom, Karen bought this little toothpaste clip device that helps get almost all of the toothpaste out.
2. Morning person or a night owl? I can be either…, and sometimes a middle of the night person, getting up for an hour or two after a couple of hours of sleep.
3. Sweet tooth or not really? Too much so!
4. Can you carry a tune? Sure, but since I really don’t know the words to very many songs, I generally only do it when I’m by myself in my truck somewhere.
5. Do you have a favorite color? I generally like blue best, but, at times other colors come a close second. The blue I really like is the blue glow of the Cerenkov effect, which happens when subatomic particles are moving through water at faster than the speed of light in water.

2. Morning or night person – neither *smile*; takes me until 9 a.m. to really come alive and I’m toast by 9 p.m. So, I guess that makes me a Day Person
3. Sweet tooth – used to have a horrible sweet tooth, but now that I have gotten away from sugar and eat 85% dark chocolate, I find most desserts to sweet. HOWEVER, I will not buy sweet and condensed milk because I will eat the entire can. It is my one sweet vice.
4. Yes, I can. Quite well actually.
5. Favourite colour – difficult. More based on the mood I am, so will have to approach it from I DO NOT like pastels. The colour has to rich, dark, and warm.

Hi! Happy Friday!
(I’m in a strangely good mood this morning despite getting VERY LITTLE sleep last night).
THANK YOU so much to those who normally prefer not to comment and commented today. I REALLY appreciate it.
So, the other day Barbara had a discussion on Blogging Without A Blog about Hanging Chads (comments that are left unanswered).
I said that I like to answer comments individually, and I do.
However, in this case, looking at all your delightful answers, I’m thinking that instead of responding to each comment, which would be difficult in this case because of the nature of the discussion, I’d like to wait until later today and compile your answers into a hmmm let’s call it a PROFILE of the MomGrind reader.
I can already tell from reading so far that most of you squeeze your toothpaste from the bottom (boo), have a sweet tooth and can’t carry a tune.
Keep the comments coming! It really is a pleasure to get to know this side of you.

1. It depends. On a fresh tube, it would be near the top. But as it starts to run out, you have to squeeze from the bottom. If you squeeze from the top, does that mean you just throw away all the toothpaste you can’t reach? Or do you get someone else to squeeze from the bottom, thereby replenishing the top for you? Could you post a video on YouTube?

3. I guess I’d say not really. I hardly ever order desert in a restaurant because they’re always so big and fancy, but I occasionally like something sweet.

OK – 40 comments – results are in!
I only counted definite answers, so the sum of these is not always 40.
Toothpaste: It’s a tie! 13 of you squeeze at the bottom, 13 squeeze at the top, and 9 said they squeeze in the middle.
Morning/ Night: 14 said morning person, 18 said night owl, 5 said both.
Sweet tooth: 26 of you have a sweet tooth, 10 don’t.
Carrying a tune: 19 of you can carry a tune, 18 can’t.
Favorite color: the three colors that received most of the votes are blue (14), purple (9) and green (8).
I find it interesting that except for the question of having a sweet tooth, where the overwhelming majority said they do, the other topics are not clear-cut at all and in fact most of the other questions are very close to tie.
My assumption was that most of you will say that you squeeze the toothpaste at the bottom; that you are a morning person; that you have a sweet tooth; that you can’t sing; and that you prefer blue. Several of my assumptions proved to be wrong.

Quirky questions. I like it!
1. I squeeze from the top or middle, only ever from the bottom if the tube is running out.
2. Night owl. I’m a terrible morning person
3. Oh, such a sweet tooth! MY hubby is the same. On a weekend sometimes we will skip dinner and just have dessert. He’ll bake a sticky date pudding or something and that’s dinner!
4. I used to sing as a kid and was pretty good, but my voice changed in my teens and now my singing is very very average
5. Red. Always has been. Always will be
But I do know what you mean about the pressure to choose one. I’ve often thought that EVERYONE can’t have a favourite colour.

1 Toothpaste squeezing? In the middle randomly – wherever I grabbed the tube to pick it up; intermittently start from the bottom and organise it all up towards the top
2 Morning but not too early. Love to go for a run first thing. I lose the plot as night progresses.
3 Sweet tooth? Yes, but not too extreme. Not caramel-filled chocolate, just plain good-quality chocolate. That middle filling stuff is too sweet.
4 Sing in tune? With practise. Can’t remember whole songs so I sing the same bit over and over.
5 Every colour! I love them all next to each other and the way they make each other beautiful. Can I please say “rainbow”? Or must I choose? Top 3 are orange, green and blue. And sunflower-petal yellow. I love colour.

This is a really well done entry.
1. I try to do it from the bottom of the bottle – but I have a feeling I often don’t put enough thought into it to be consistent one way or the other.
2. Morning person.
3. Not really a sweet tooth. This is largely because I’ve avoided sugar long enough that I’ve actually stopped craving it. Though, I do still enjoy it. I just don’t seek it out as often.
4. No.
5. Blue I guess. But I think this is mostly social pressure. I like all colors and am not sure how strongly I feel about blue being the pinnacle.

Morning/ Night: 17 said morning person, 20 said night owl, 5 said both. More night owls than morning people!
Sweet tooth: 30 of you have a sweet tooth, 11 don’t. NOT surprising.

Toothpaste: Zoe broke the tie! 20 of you squeeze at the bottom, 19 at the top, and 12 in the middle. All you bottom squeezers – HA – yours is NOT the right way if so many of us squeeze from the top!
Morning/ Night: MORE NIGHT OWLS. 22 said morning person, 26 said night owl, 6 said both.
Sweet tooth: 34 of you have a sweet tooth, 19 don’t.
So, most of you (us!) do have a sweet tooth, but the latest people to comment changed the ratio, and now it is about 2:1 for sweets compared with the previous 3:1.
Carrying a tune: My READERS CAN SING! 29 of you can carry a tune, 25 can’t. This one really surprised me, by the way. For some reason I assumed that most people can’t sing very well. Looks like I was wrong.
Favorite color: The three colors that received most of the votes are blue (20), green (11) and purple (10).
@ Emily: What you say about red is interesting. Looking at my own house, it is very demure and neutral but has quite a few dark red accents. I guess I like red too.
