Chocolate Covered Strawberries Recipe
Chocolate covered strawberries appeal to both kids and grownups. They’re perfect for entertaining, because they are beautiful and festive and you can make them a few hours in advance. But they’re so easy to make that I make them for my family at least once a week.
If you make chocolate covered strawberries with dark chocolate, it’s as healthy as a dessert can get, and it’s also relatively low-calorie. When I serve chocolate covered strawberries I feel a little more virtuous than when serving non-fruit-containing desserts.
They’re so easy to make:
2 lbs large and firm strawberries. I try to use organic strawberries.
3 packages (113g each) high quality semisweet, bittersweet or white
chocolate
2 TBS canola oil
Wash the strawberries and pat dry with a paper towel.
Slowly melt the chocolate over VERY low heat.
When melted, remove from heat, add the oil and mix well. Dip each strawberry in the melted chocolate, holding onto the stem. Twist around a little to get rid of any excess chocolate. Place on wax paper. Chill a few hours in fridge before serving. These are best eaten on the same day, but are pretty good the next day too.
When making chocolate covered strawberries using white chocolate, simply follow the same recipe:
Melt the chocolate:
Dip the strawberries in the melted chocolate, chill and serve!
What’s YOUR favorite dessert?

Hi Vered. These strawberries look tempting. I’m not the typical dessert person in the sense that after a good meal I’m done and happy not to have dessert. But, when I do treat myself I prefer lemon meringue pie, creme brulee or carrot cake with sickly sweet cream cheese icing (all gluten-free of course). Hope you had a great dinner party. By the sounds of it you did.

Vered,

Please don’t tell me that those lovely strawberries were made for your dinner party! No! No! Not fair! I had to look at those horrible pants from the ’70′s (a few pair of which are STILL in my closet – for nostalgia, only, of course) and your guests got the yummies?
Could you please just fax one? One nice, scrumpious, juicy, mouth-watering, beautiful, chocolatey, sweet, delicious strawberries? Just one? PLEASE!

@ Davina: I love lemon meringue pie. Haven’t had it in ages. Yes, it was a nice dinner party with good friends.
@ Becky: Crème Brulee is good… problem is, I only like the broiled top!
@ Jess: Mmm.. a Cheesecake Factory cheesecake IS a meal all by itself.
@ Amanda: My husband agrees.
When he scans the dessert menu, he always goes for something with chocolate.
@ Writer Dad: WOW. That sounds really good, and not something that I would try to make at home!
@ Stacey: Fruit salad is good, but I can’t consider it a dessert. Too virtuous.
@ Jamie: Warm chocolate chip cookies? That’s breakfast in our hosue.
@ Scott: You’re right! This is quite healthy, especially when made with dark chocolate.

I’ve read that strawberries are amongst the worse, if not the worse, in terms of pesticide residue. So the fact that you call the conventional kind toxic, perhaps isn’t an exaggeration.
I too avoid conventional strawberries when I go shopping.

I don’t really like desserts – I know, I know what’s wrong with me. I’ll eat a candy bar sometimes but I don’t like cake or pie or any of the traditional favorites. @ Christina: Growing up in Israel, I never had bread pudding. The first time I tried it was at The Prime Rib restaurant in Washington, DC, in 1996. It was heavenly.
@ Max: I love chocolate mousse. Ido and I once split an order of chocolate mousse at a Paris bistro (Chez Georges). It was a HUGE bowl, meant to be shared, but even though it was SO GOOD, we couldn’t finish it. That was in 1993, and we’re still periodically mourning that leftover mousse and talking about HOW COULD WE NOT FINISH THAT MOUSSE WHAT KIND OF WIMPS ARE WE.
@ Carla: I’m learning to enjoy dark chocolate, but deep inside… I still like milk chocolate better. I rarely admit it, though. It sounds so unsophisticated.
@ Vintage Mommy: Sweet tooth, huh? Me too.
@ Evelyn: Simple is good. I agree.
@ Maya: Chocolate fondue is great for entertaining, isn’t it? Mmm.. grilled peaches and pineapple with ice cream sound heavenly. Especially if it’s rich vanilla ice cream.
@ Barbara: I’m not sure why, but I just don’t like carrot cake! I mean, I can eat it, but it’s not a favorite.
@ Tara: Ice cream sundae is so decadent.
@ Stacey Shipman: I haven’t had apple pie in such a long time. It sounds really really good.
@ Chris: I LOVE mango. It’s Ido’s favorite fruit, by the way. But I can’t consider fruit as dessert! It’s too healthy.
@ Kim: Research shows that babies prefer sweet… so yes, that’s unusual, although you are certainly not alone and I don’t think anyone should ever pressure, guilt or bribe anyone else into eating something that they don’t want to eat.
@ Dot: Why THANK YOU! That was a very lovely compliment. Chocolate mousse cake is excellent provided that the mousse is very fresh.
@ nATURAL: whiskey cake? 7 up cake? I’m intrigued.
@ Andre: Ido can’t stand fruit desserts. He likes fruit alright, but fresh. Not cooked or stewed or baked into anything. He does enjoy these strawberries, though.
@ killlashandra: It’s true: making them is fun too.
@ Jill: You sound like Ido.

My favorite dessert I would have to say is my mom’s cherry crunch. Its a super easy reciepe and I guarantee that it will be gone in the same night. All it is is cherry pie filling, then cake mix that is mixed melted butter so it forms little crumbs and sprinkle that on top and served with vanilla ice cream! hmmm I wish i was home now to have some with my mommy now…

@ josie: A double boiler is certainly safer in terms of making sure the chocolate doesn’t burn. I guess I’m just lazy.

Hi – hit on this when searching for a way of doing choc dipped mango. Feel I ought to dry the ripe mango pieces a little first, was looking for an idea of timing/oven temp etc. Any advice gratefully received!! Love the thread, am a great dessert fan – chocolate anything first, lemon meringue pie, anything with raspberries. then all the good old British puds!!

Hi Hilary, I never tried to dip mango in chocolate but this recipe looks good:

Good luck!
