Twitter: Your Target Market Is Already There

According to new research, Twitter will reach 18 million active users by the end of 2009.

What does this mean for you? It means that your target market is probably already on Twitter. Or if they’re not on Twitter yet, they will soon be. Which means you should be on Twitter too.

Twitter is conversational in nature and simple to use. In my experience, it’s easier to build a following on Twitter than on any other social networking platform.

Twitter offers business owners an opportunity to connect with potential and existing customers in real time. It has a powerful search function that allows you to search for mentions of your own company so that you can respond accordingly.

You can also search for mentions of the service you provide – so if someone is looking for the service or product you provide, you can contact them and offer your services.

A while ago I tweeted about having leftover pizza for breakfast. Tony and Alba pizza, a local pizza delivery service, immediately tweeted back, “what would it take to have you try our pizza?”

I loved it! They obviously used Twitter Search to regularly search for mentions of pizza from people in their area, and followed up with those people as a great way to grow their business.
